Now to the Issue

Welcome to the August/September issue of Case In Point. As promised in the last issue, we offer A Blueprint for Men’s Health. Make sure you pass this issue on to your husband, your brother and other men in your life so they can get started on the path to prevention.

The cover story in this issue investigates a topic that will impact generations to come. America Is Turning Gray provides insight into the changing demographics of America. As baby boomers approach their mid-60s, many are starting to think about the next stage of life. They have seen their parents age and some, should they have to do it over again, might seek out alternative paths. The article discusses a valuable resource for the aging and their caregivers.

By the time you read the August issue, the Olympics will be nearing their end. One of our features on autism displays the strength an Olympic weightlifter — who is also the mother of an autistic child — found in her son. As we learn more about autism and disorders on the spectrum, treatments and resources continue to surface. Access to these resources is the key to helping families cope and find balance in their lives.

Elsewhere, Cheri Lattimer, the executive director of the Case Management Society of America, provides an update on an important resource directed toward those involved with transitioning patients. The National Transitions of Care Coalition (NTOCC) is a multi-organizational coalition that stresses accountability. To better understand NTOCC, visit their website.

This issue also highlights the winners of the Case Manager of the Year Award and the Award of Service Excellence. This year’s winners have close ties to the military. Take time to get to know these dynamic individuals and the awards handed out at CMSA’s annual conference.

Don’t forget to take time to read The Case Report, the official newsletter of CMSA. This issue highlights important events and trends that you don’t want to miss.
