Don’t miss the most recent issue of Case in Point!

The June/July issue of Case in Point officially kicks off summer with a topic of personal importance to the vast majority of our readers. Women’s Health, an extended feature, discusses the vital importance of women making sure to look after their own health and well-being. As case managers, we do a great job of giving advice to others about their health, without always heeding this advice in our own lives. As you read through the list of the major illnesses that women face, I hope you put your personal health and wellness in the forefront of your mind.

Also in this issue, we cover how our military health system is making a difference for our wounded servicemen and -women. As the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan continue, the military health system is constantly advancing the field of orthotics and prosthetics. Transitioning the Wounded takes us on an inside tour of Brooke Army Medical Center, which is charged with healing the spirit of our brave men and women in the armed forces. Our hats are off to them.

Another pertinent article for this time of year - when the sun is shining and most of us are outdoors - is located on page 64. Skin: An Organic Canvas will serve as a good refresher on the largest and one of the most multifaceted organs in our body.

Also in this issue, a thought leader involved in social work details the often-murky conditions known as obsessive-compulsive disorder and shares how case managers can make a difference in the lives of those affected by it.

One of the most widespread currents shifting through health care today is the Medical Home model. In The Patient-Centered Medical Home we learn from a fellow case manager how this model has helped those affected by Hurricane Katrina. This model is opening new doors for case managers, so it is one to pay close attention to.

In a special report on the intricate balance between human health and the environment, our Managing Editor, Richard Scott, presents Footprints, an article that investigates the work of several organizations that are trying to relieve the stress on the ecosystems of our planet. I hope this information will motivate you to consider getting involved in making a difference.

Also, take time to read The Case Report, the official newsletter of the Case Management Society of America. This issue highlights important events and trends that are important to all involved in the practice.
