Utilization Management and Congruent Care Across the Continuum

“To be a true patient advocate, you have to know your clinical standards, but you also have to be able to discuss insurance benefits, financial ramifications, resources for those patients — and not just (resources) related to your area, but across the benefit. Because if a patient has a limited benefit, it’s not how best it can be used in just your setting, but how using that benefit is going to affect the patient’s treatment overall. We’ve got to see the big picture to be able to guide our patients to their best outcomes.”

Introduction:
Karen Chambers is the chief operating officer of Proxsys LLC. Proxsys provides software and services that integrate physicians’ offices and hospitals. Karen’s career in medical management includes design, implementation and supervision of corporate, regional and local case management; disease management; utilization management; and quality improvement programs and reimbursement processes.
