Advocacy Essentials in the Case Management Process

Introduction:
Nancy’s healthcare career has a foundation in both acute and post-acute nursing, which laid the groundwork for her to enter the practice of case management more than 20 years ago. In her current position, Nancy serves as Principal Consultant for Riverside HealthCare Consulting. In her role at Riverside, Nancy develops programs for payers and providers that reflect the state of the science of case management and other related medical management strategies. Nancy servers as an Adjunct Faculty Member at the University of Southern Indiana’s Case Management Program.
Nancy has served on several case management advisory boards, including the Commission/URAC Case Management Advisory Committee, CDC Case Management External Workgroup, American Society of Consultant Pharmacists Research and Education Foundation, 2002 Thrombosis Prevention and Management Education Program and Traineeship Planning Committee, the National Managed Healthcare Conference Advisory Board, the Coalition to Prevent DVT, the MC Biologics Advisory Group, and the National Transitions of Care Coalition.
On the personal side, Nancy enjoys her home in the hills of Tennessee with her husband, George, and the frequent visits from her daughters and their extended families. As a lung cancer survivor, Nancy shares her expertise with lung cancer patients and their families to assist them in managing their disease and addressing the fears they face day in and day out.
Leadership Interview: Nancy talks to listeners about the role of advocacy in the practice of case management. She shares her personal perspective on how case managers can make a difference in the lives of those with chronic conditions and provides tips for sharing that expertise in the community and with decision-makers on the state and federal level.
