A Look Back on an Honored Career

Introduction:
Patti McCollom was one of the founders, leaders and mentors in the practice of case management and life-care planning. Her career was diverse and spanned several decades. She served as one of the founders of the Commission for Case Manager Certification and the American Academy of Life Care Planners. Patti was a mentor to many in the practice through her friendship and her zest for continuing education to ensure that all stayed current to provide the best care possible to our patients. Patti was a published author, frequent speaker at local, state and national conferences, and sat on several boards where she felt her influence could move the practice forward. In July of 2007, Patti was honored by the Commission for Case Manager Certification and given the Patricia McCollom Professional Case Manager Award. The award in the amount of $1,000 will be given in support of tuition, travel and expenses for participation at a continuing education event. Once approved, the award recipient will forward his or her event application to CCMC for processing. The remainder of the award will be distributed to the recipient in the form of a cash award. A Leader Rests:
Patti McCollom recorded this interview on August 3, 2007. She was excited to share her thoughts and vision of the practice of case management with our listeners. Patti had a long battle with breast cancer over the past several years, but never lost her enthusiasm and passion for life. She passed away in her home on October 6, 2007, and is now at rest. She is survived by her husband, Lewis Verling, their five children and several grandchildren.
